Hello Gathering Church, Yesterday we began a new four week series based on Philippians 4:8. The hope of this series is to explore our thought life and find ways to ‘take every thought captive’ for the ‘renewing of our minds’ in ways that will lead us to God’s peace and joy. As part of this series there is some weekly homework….I mean “thoughtwork”, that you are encouraged to actively participate in. 1. Begin memorizing Philippians 4:8 Finally, beloved, whatever is true, whatever is honourable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable— if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Philippians 4:8 2. Pay attention to your thoughts and to take inventory of what’s running through your mind. Several times throughout your day, pause for a minute to evaluate your thoughts. 3. Practice the “Think this, Not this” exercise. The following is a list of “Think this, Not that” examples.
(The 4:8 Principle by Tommy Newberry) As we participate in this series, and since we are free to choose what we think about, What specific thoughts could you increase? What specific thoughts could you decrease? What kind of thoughts will distress your soul? What types of thoughts will nourish and hydrate your soul? It is a delight to grow in faith and expression of the ways of God with you. I look forward to hearing about the transformation that will take place as we set our minds on things above.
God’s Peace Catherine
