Overview
Like a seed that falls deep into the dark, rich earth, we are called to deep growth, releasing our attachments that prevent us from bearing and offering fruit.
This is a special sermon in our Lent series offered by Professional Counselor Wanda Wagler Martin from Shalom Counseling Services.
"It is natural human response to want to push away challenges and difficulties, and return to what we think is better. But we are being given an invitation to deepen our learning about ourselves, each other, and the world." ~Wanda Wagler Martin
Scripture
Passages that normalize the fear we all face.
Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
I have summoned you by name; you are mine. ~Isaiah 43:1Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. ~1 Peter 5:7
Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? ~Matthew 6:27
Passages that tend to our fear:
He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”
11 The Lord Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress. ~Pslam 46:10-11
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. ~John 14:27
Reflection Questions:
1. How are you 'putting your own oxygen mask on first' in these weeks and months?
2. What are one or two things that could increase your own capacity to help others by being healthier within yourself?
